The Department of "Kazakh Philology and Journalism" of Shakarim University has a long history. The Department of "Kazakh Philology and Journalism" trains teachers of the Kazakh language and literature, philologists and journalists. Looking back at the history of the department, it can be noted that the Department of Kazakh Language and Literature as one of the key links in the structure of the Semipalatinsk State Pedagogical Institute was established in 1939. Rahim Barlybayev, a graduate of the Kazakh State Pedagogical Institute named after Abai, a participant in the Great Patriotic War, was the first head of the department (1939-1941). In 1949, the Department of Kazakh language and literature was headed by a graduate of the Kazakh State Pedagogical Institute named after Abai - Zhumagali Shakenov. From 1978 to 2008, the department was headed by Kinayat Shayakhmetov, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Professor, Excellent Student of Education of the Kazakh SSR. The teaching staff of the department consists of 15 teachers, including 11 candidates of sciences, 4 masters. Teachers with an academic degree make up 80%. The department employs specialists with a high professional level. Industrial practice is conducted in leading institutions and organizations of the Republic of Kazakhstan and East Kazakhstan Region. The department has established an exchange of students during one semester of the academic year with partner universities.
